"Let the Glacier Cool" Trip
In 2020, Rotary International officially recognized environmental protection as its seventh area of focus. In alignment with this commitment, the United Nations also declared 2025 as the International Year for Glacier Protection, aiming to raise global awareness of the critical role glaciers play in climate systems, ecosystems, and water cycles, while calling for the protection of these “water towers of the world.” Rotary District 3450 is proud to support the “Let the Glacier Cool” initiative, launched in collaboration with the Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the DaGu Glacier Management Office, and a network of esteemed research institutions, scholars, and experts.
To champion this cause, District Governor Cassy Cheng will lead a delegation of Rotarians to the DaGu Glacier in Sichuan from 26 to 30 October 2025. This meaningful journey will include high-level exchanges with central and local government representatives, media engagement, and a formal launch ceremony.
Trip Highlights:
This 5-day, 4-night Rotary expedition offers a rich itinerary
• Dialogue with experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and leading enterprises
• Visit to the Hong Kong Glacier Science Museum, known as the “Third Pole”
• Ride on the world’s highest cable car to the 4,860-meter glacier summit
• Hands-on glacier education activities with official certification
• Exploration of DaGu’s vibrant autumn forests and scenic landscapes
• Visit to the Panda Valley Breeding Research Center
• Cultural experience at the Yangrong Hada Tibetan Village
• Tour of the Wenchuan Earthquake Memorial Site
• Appreciation of traditional Sichuan opera
Rotarians are warmly encouraged to bring family and friends. Participating clubs will earn a minimum of 20 points toward the Green Club Award and stand a chance to win a brand-new electric RV sponsored by Chery. • Participate in at least any two of the following events to support District’s “Let the Glacier Cool” Initiative:
*Attended the 16 Aug 2025 PPE Seminar
*Join or Sponsor the 26-30 Oct 2025 DaGu Glacier Trip
*Attend the Glacier Conservation Ambassador Training (Nov 2025)
*Host a Glacier Conservation Ambassador presentation to any Rotary Club/School before 20 June 2026
